Gail Miller,Amanda Hancock,David Kowalick: Unscrambling Grief

Unscrambling Grief

Description

Unscrambling Grief is the story of our sojourn through losing two daughters. It describes all the emotions that we experienced along the path and gives the reader permission to walk their journey in their own unique way, as we did. This book highlights that grief can result from a multitude of sources, including business failure, a friend moving away, infertility, death of a pet, loss of a limb, having your drivers license revoked and many more. It's designed to remove the notion that grieving must follow a set process in a designated time frame and will also highlight the fact that it's possible to emerge somewhere along the journey, as a happy and well-adjusted person, again ready to make a valuable contribution to the world. It takes just over an hour to read, so is a manageable size for a reader in the midst of their own grief situation. Illustrations that lighten the mood, help to expose the absurdity of a situation or the craziness of some of the comments that people unwittingly make. A compiled list near the end of the book, refers to the chapters in which particular emotions are found, so that the reader can re-read those sections when needing reassurance that their current emotion is valid and ok to be experiencing. The book concludes with a number of stories about grief experienced by others, enhancing the validity of the emotions expressed.

Beaten and left for dead, Sir Lucas Murray is a man wounded in body and soul. He has brought himself back to becoming the warrior he once was--except for his ruined leg and the grief he feels over the death of the woman he once loved...the same woman who led him into his enemies' hands. Quilting is a billion dollar industry, with more and more households having at least one quilter in the family. With such an enthusiastic (and growing) audience, it's no wonder that internationally known textile designer and author Kaffe Fassett is announcing the 14th book in his best-selling quilting series. In "Kaffe Quilts Again" readers are treated to 20 all-new versions of Kaffe's favorite patterns--each using the latest range of unique and beautiful Rowan fabrics. Photographed in Bulgaria, against a backdrop of splendid painted houses and wedding-cake churches, each quilt and pattern in the book is an inspiration of vivid color and charm. This flawless how-to guide features an array of new fabrics and expanded Unscrambling Grief pdf colors, and provides complete instruction for creating museum-quality quilts that will become family treasures.

Water, Ice & Stone : Science and Memory on the Antarctic Lakes

Description

"Nature writing of a very high order . . . a joyride for those who enjoy deep explorations of logic, human frailty and the laws of nature."-San Francisco Chronicle"[Bill Green's] prose rings with the elemental clarity of the ice he knows so well."-PEN committee citationA classic of contemporary nature writing, this award-winning account of Antarctica is now available for the first time in paperback. A new introduction by the author emphasizes the ecological importance of the continent within the global warming crisis.Bill Green is a professor of interdisciplinary studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He has been conducting research in Antarctica since 1968.

THE CHARMING AND ENTICING COLOR-IN-THE-LINES `INTERACTIVE INTERCOURSE` GUIDE This book is a continuation of my Motivation and Personality, published in 1954. It was constructed in about the same way, that is, by doing one piece at a time of the larger theoretical structure. It is a predecessor to work yet to be done toward the construction of a comprehensive, systematic and empirically based general psychology and philosophy which includes both the depths and the heights of human nature. The last chapter is to some extent a program for Water, Ice & Stone : Science and Memory on the Antarctic Lakes free download pdf this future work, and serves as a bridge to it. It is a first attempt to integrate the "health-and-growth psychology" with psychopathology and psychoanalytic dynamics, the dynamic with the holistic, Becoming with Being, good with evil, positive with negative. Phrased in another way, it is an effort to build on the general psychoanalytic base and on the scientific-positivistic base of experimental psychology, the Eupsychian, B-psychological and metamotivational superstructure which these two systems lack, going beyond their limits. It is very difficult, I have found, to communicate to others my simultaneous respect for and impatience with these two comprehensive psychologies. So many people insist on being either pro-Freudian or anti-Freudian, pro-scientific-psychology or anti-scientific-psychology, etc. In my opinion all such loyalty-positions are silly. Our job is to integrate these various truths into the whole truth, which should be our only loyalty. Wilder Publications is a green publisher. All of our books are printed to order. This reduces waste and helps us keep prices low while greatly reducing our impact on the environment. Contributors

Description

This series on the treatment of cancer is sponsored by the UICe. The editors and authors feel strongly that more standar- dization in cancer therapy is needed on a worldwide basis. This, of course, is only possible if experts from all countries subscribe to a joint policy of making their treatment designs available to practising oncologists all over the world. Current Treatment of Cancer discusses all the equipment and methods now in use in cancer therapy. It covers all types of cancer, thus providing the reader with comprehensive infor- mation on cancer management. In recent decades there has been a tremendous improve- ment in the treatment of cancer, and there is hope for even fur- ther success in this fight. We are convinced that this series will help us to make a concerted response to the challenge of can- cer. UICC Treatment and Rehabilitation Programme Ismail Elsebai Chairman Preface Part I Members of two institutions, the Brompton Hospital in London and the Finsen Institute in Copenhagen, were invited to write on lung cancer, and after reading the manuscripts it was decided that the contents of three pairs of chapters overlapped sufficiently for them to be combined.

Developing a large-scale software system in C++ requires more than just a sound understanding of the logical design issues covered in most books on C++ programming. To be successful, you will also need a grasp of physical design concepts that, while closely tied to the technical aspects of development, include a dimension with which even expert software developers may have little or no experience. This is the definitive book for all C++ software professionals involved Lung Tumors : Lung, Mediastinum, Pleura, and Chest Wall free epub in large development efforts such as databases, operating systems, compilers, and frameworks. It is the first C++ book that actually demonstrates how to design large systems, and one of the few books on object-oriented design specifically geared to practical aspects of the C++ programming language. In this book, Lakos explains the process of decomposing large systems into physical (not inheritance) hierarchies of smaller, more manageable components. Such systems with their acyclic physical dependencies are fundamentally easier and more economical to maintain, test, and reuse than tightly interdependent systems. In addition to explaining the motivation for following good physical as well as logical design practices, Lakos provides you with a catalog of specific techniques designed to eliminate cyclic, compile-time, and link-time (physical) dependencies.

Ralph R. Roberts,Joe E. Kraynak: Flipping Houses For Dummies

Flipping Houses For Dummies

Description

"This book is designed for realty investors who want to profit from buying below market, making cosmetic improvements to add value, and then quickly reselling. But real estate agents and home buyers should also study it because of the valuable insights offered by a longtime, very successful real estate broker. On my scale of one to 10, this superb book rates an off-the-chart 12." -Robert Bruss You've probably seen TV shows like Flip This House and Flip That House, in which Real estate investors buy, renovate, and sell a house in a matter of weeks for tens of thousands of dollars in profit. They make flipping houses look so easy that you want to jump out of your recliner (during the next commercial, of course), run down the street, find a house for sale, flip it for a 50 percent profit, and run back home to continue watching the show. I, Ralph Roberts, have flipped hundreds of houses, and it's never as easy as it looks on TV. People don't generally line up at your front door begging you to buy their house for 30-50 percent below market value. Renovation expenses always exceed estimates. And you can't always sell a house for what you think it's worth. Flipping houses for a profit requires time, money, and what I like to call sticktoitism-dogged determination in the face of overwhelming uncertainty. Not just another house flipping book You can find plenty of books about flipping houses that claim "anyone can do it" and make flipping look easy and risk-free. Flipping Houses For Dummies takes a different approach-honesty. We don't claim that flipping houses is "easy" or "simple" or "risk-free," because, quite frankly, it isn't. Flipping Houses For Dummies reveals the risks and rewards of flipping properties; helps you determine whether you have the time, energy, cash, and other resources to be successful; and then conveys the expert knowledge that those who wish to pursue house flipping need in order to minimize risk and maximize potential profits in a very competitive market. Did you know? Most books on flipping houses gloss over the key factors that that make or break the novice house flipper. These are the very items we focus on in Flipping Houses For Dummies. For example, did you know: * You should secure financing before you look at houses. * As a flipper, you want dontwanners-houses that the owners obviously don't want. * You make your profit when you buy the property. You realize your profit when you sell. * Always plan on earning at least 20 percent after your total investment-purchase price, repairs and renovations, real estate agent commissions, and holding costs (monthly mortgage payments, insurance, property taxes, and utilities). * Working with a top-notch real estate agent can save you thousands of dollars more than what you pay in commissions. * You should choose a limited geographical area to work and then become an expert on the houses and property values in that area. * Your goal when renovating a home should be to bring the property up to market standards, not exceed them. A flipping book for real people Flipping Houses For Dummies speaks to the mom and pop investor, steering you clear of the gray areas, which tend to carry high-risks and low-returns, into safer, more potentially profitable areas. We encourage you invest in your comfort zone and take on bigger, riskier projects with higher profit potential only when you're ready. In Flipping Houses For Dummies we stress that the first flip is the most important one, and we take the guesswork out of the first transaction, to lead you through a positive first experience on which to build a promising real estate investment portfolio. Flipping Houses For Dummies provides plenty of examples of successful and not-so-successful property flips, presenting the total investment (in time and money), the work involved, and the net profit. Before-and-after photos visually illustrate the positive transformations from run-down-shacks to showcase homes.

What in the World Is Going On? There is an unsettling mood hanging like storm clouds over North America. Why is there so much upheaval on so many levels? Where is America moving, and where is the world heading? Who will emerge from among the sea of nations as the survivor and the leader? In times of uncertainty, you want to know that things are under control and happening as planned. In "Unleashing the Beast," Perry Stone demonstrates how biblical prophecies are playing out on the world stage today. In this informative and prophetically stirring book, you will discover... That biblical prophecies and Islamic traditions both point to the rise of a coming kingdom and a global dictator who will seize the world The role that current global concerns have in setting the stage for these End Time events to unfold That God is, and Flipping Houses For Dummies download ebook always has been, in control in the midst of it all

John Wyatt,Norman Ackroyd: The Shining Levels

The Shining Levels

Description

John Wyatt first encountered the Lake District during a boyhood camping trip to Windermere. He was overwhelmed by the freedom of the landscape and the closeness to nature he felt. It was as if he belonged here, amongst the fells, the crags and the endless horizon. This call to the wild stayed with him, becoming so powerful that one day he did what many only dream of: he left a steady job and his town life to become a forestry worker in a Lakeland wood at Cartmel Fell. This is one of the finest books ever written on the Lake District. Like Thoreau, John Wyatt embraced the simplicity of living alone in a woodland hut, immersing himself in a life made rich by birdsong, foraging for food the smell of woodsmoke, and the extraordinary companionship of Buck, a young roe deer discovered in the woods.

-Prepare a home "grocery store" and "pharmacy" "New York Times "bestselling author of "Wicked Embers" cranks up the tension in the next Souls of Fire novel, featuring Emberly Pearson, a phoenix who assumes human form to fight death at every turn. Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) was the greatest and most influential sculptor of his age. Endlessly inventive and gifted with extraordinary skill, he virtually created the Baroque style. In his religious sculptures he excelled at capturing movement and extreme emotion, uniting figures with their setting to create a single conception of overwhelming intensity that perfectly expressed the fervour of Counter-Reformation Rome. Intensity and drama also characterize his remarkable portraits and his world-famous Roman fountains. Rudolf Wittkower's classic monograph and catalogue raisonne has been the standard established work on The Shining Levels pdf Bernini since 1955. It is now available in an updated and expanded edition. The concise but masterly survey provides an authoritative introduction to Bernini's work, while the full catalogue gives detailed, scholarly and up-to-date information on his complete oeuvre.

The companion journal to the New York Times Bestselling series Star Wars: Jedi Academy! For those who enjoyed the quirkiness of Schott's Miscellany, the erudition of The Etymologicon or the extremes of The Dangerous Book for Boys, this is the perfect read. From Flagpole Sitting to Hot Cockles, Edward Brooke-Hitching has researched through piles of dusty tomes to bring vividly back to life some of the most curious, dangerous and downright bizarre sports and pastimes that mankind has ever devised, before thinking better of it and erasing it from the memory. After all, who would ever want to bring back Fox Tossing, a popular sport for men Where There's a Witch free ebook and women in 17th-century Germany? As the name suggests, it would involve dozens of couples pairing up and standing 20-25 feet apart in an enclosed field, each holding one end of a net, and then they would pull hard at both ends as the fox ran past, sending it flying high into the air. There are many other sports revealed within these pages that are unlikely ever to make an appearance on our TV screens, such as Firework Boxing, which is just as dangerous as it sounds.

Description

The first book in the New York Times bestselling series about the hilarious adventures of a cheeky, loveable hero. Love the CBBC TV series of Hank Zipzer? Read the books! First in the New York Times bestselling series from Henry "the Fonz" Winkler and Lin Oliver. There are many reasons why Hank Zipzer shouldn't have to do homework, e.g. every pen he owns has run out of ink, his thoughts are controlled by alien beings, he's allergic to lined paper...In this first book in the highly popular series, Hank's ingenious plans to avoid doing his homework end in comic disaster as he accidentally floods his classroom. Perfect for reluctant readers.

The Viking Critical Library edition of "The Quiet Aamerican" contains the complete text of Graham Greene's prophetic novel about American involvement in the Vietnam War, together with extensive contextual and historical writings and a range of literary criticism. This series provides texts central to medieval studies courses and focuses upon the diverse cultural, social and political conditions that affected the functioning of all levels of medieval society. The Bible in 100 Pages: Seeing the Big Picture in God's Great Story

Description

This crisp, clear summary provides a handy reference tool enabling the reader to see how the Bible fits together. Despite its many authors and vast time frame, there is a core narrative that runs throughout the text. Each of the fifteen chapters focuses on a key theme, taking the reader progressively from Genesis to Revelation. Chapter One covers Genesis 1-11: God has deliberately made us to be creatures dependent on their Creator. Adam and Eve rebelled against His rule, as did Cain. Abel, Seth and Noah submitted to it. This is the big picture of displayed in the Bible: Will you try to be your own god or will you serve the Creator God? The author's style is punchy and engaging and the text is fast-paced and succinct. It is sure to be a hit with readers keen to get to grips with the wider narrative of the Bible.

The Viking Critical Library edition of "The Quiet Aamerican" contains the complete text of Graham Greene's prophetic novel about American involvement in the Vietnam War, together with extensive contextual and historical writings and a range of literary criticism. Do you know...that the Bible is a world best-seller? ...that it is not the one book but a whole library? ...how writing began? ...the name of the first English Bible? ...when the printing press was invented? ...how the Bible translators work? Guaranteed to move even the most stoic reader to tears (of laughter), Very Bad Poetry is sure to become a favorite of the poetically inclined (and disinclined). This series provides texts central to medieval studies courses and focuses upon the diverse cultural, social and political conditions that affected the functioning of all levels of medieval society. Translations are accompanied by introductory and explanatory material and each volume includes a comprehensive guide to the sources' interpretation, including discussion of critical linguistic problems and an assessment of recent research on the topics covered. From 1348 to 1350 Europe was devastated by an epidemic that left between a third and one half of the population dead. This source book traces, through contemporary writings, the calamitous impact of the Black Death in Europe, with a particular emphasis on its spread across England from 1348 to 1349. Rosemary Horrox surveys contemporary attempts to explain the plague, which was universally regarded as an expression of divine vengeance for the sins The Bible in 100 Pages: Seeing the Big Picture in God's Great Story download epub of humankind. Moralists all had their particular targets for criticism. However, this emphasis on divine chastisement did not preclude attempts to explain the plague in medical or scientific terms.

David Downie,Alison Harris: Quiet Corners of Rome

Quiet Corners of Rome

Description

This charming guidebook celebrates more than fifty of the most beautiful, tranquil, and often hidden places in the Eternal City: courtyards where mossy fountains splash; landscaped staircases clinging to Rome's Seven Hills; cool, quiet cloisters; atmospheric ruins dating to the days of Caesar; gorgeous gardens scented by boxwood and bay trees. Some of Rome's quiet corners boast breathtaking views, while others are filled with archaeological or architectural details, from crumbling aqueducts or majestic stone archways, to Renaissance garden follies, frescoed walls, and baroque fountains. Author David Downie and photographer Alison Harris climb the Janiculum-the highest hill within Rome's ancient walled fortifications-and find hidden benches with see-forever views; a church forecourt where Goethe sat and sighed, drinking in the inspiration; and the park of a once-noble villa now luxuriantly overgrown, its long trellises knotted with fragrant wisteria and climbing roses. On the Palatine, they find a narrow lane that passes over the ancient ruins, affording rare glimpses of the Forum and Colosseum, free of charge and with no wait. Beyond the Domus Aurea of Emperor Nero, they discover a sweeping staircase from a century ago and the massive brick remains of a temple to Isis. Even the most intrepid travelers who think of themselves as Rome "insiders" will be surprised when they follow the author and photographer of this guidebook through the Roman labyrinth. Historical anecdotes and quotations from antiquity to the present day are woven throughout the text, bringing Rome alive.

Now Chelsea has taken a vow of silence-to learn to keep her mouth shut, and to stop hurting anyone else. And if she thinks keeping secrets is hard, not speaking up when she's ignored, ridiculed, and even attacked is worse. But there's strength in silence, and in the new friends who are, shockingly, coming her way. People she never noticed before. A boy she might even fall for. Henry James: Daisy Miller

Daisy Miller

Description

"Daisy Miller" is a fascinating portrait of a young woman from Schenectady, New York, who, traveling in Europe, runs afoul of the socially pretentious American expatriate community in Rome. First published in 1878, the novella brought American novelist Henry James(1843-1916), then living in London, his first international success. Like many of James's early works, it portrays a venturesome American girl in the treacherous waters of European society - a theme that would culminate in his 1881 masterpiece, "The Portrait of a Lady." On the surface, "Daisy Miller" unfolds a simple story of a young American girl's willful yet innocent flirtation with a young Italian, and its unfortunate consequences. But throughout the narrative, James contrasts American customs and values with European manners and morals in a tale rich in psychological and social insight. A vivid portrayal of Americans abroad and a telling encounter between the values of the Old and New Worlds, "Daisy Miller" is an ideal introduction to the work of one of America's greatest writers of fiction.

That's Not English: Britishisms, Americanisms and What Our English Says About Us

Description

In this brilliant transatlantic survival guide, Erin Moore examines the key differences between the British and the Americans through their language. You'll discover why Americans give - and take - so many bloody compliments and never, ever say 'shall' (well hardly ever), as well as what the British really mean when they say 'proper', why they believe it is better to be bright than clever and how the word sorry has at least eight different meanings for them.

Little Infamies

Description

Panos Karnezis' remarkable stories are all set in the same nameless Greek village. His characters are the people who live there - the priest, the barber, the whore, the doctor, the seamstress, the mayor - and the occasional animal: a centaur, a parrot that recites Homer, a horse called History. Their lives intersect, as lives do in a small place, and they know each other's secrets - the hidden crimes, the mysteries, the little infamies that men commit. Karnezis observes his villagers with a forgiving eye, and creates a world where magic invariably loses out to harsh reality, a world at once universal, funny and utterly compelling.

In the early days of photography, many believed and hoped that the camera would prove more efficient than the human eye in capturing the unseen. Spiritualists and animists of the nineteenth century seized on the new technology as a method of substantiating the existence of supernatural beings and happenings. This fascinating book assembles more than 250 photographic images from the Victorian era to the 1960s, each purporting to document an occult phenomenon: levitations, apparitions, transfigurations, ectoplasms, spectres, ghosts, and auras. Drawn from Imadoki!: v. 5: Nowadays ebook pdf the archives of European and American occult societies and private and public collections, the photographs in many cases have never before been published. The Perfect Medium studies these rare and remarkable photographs through cultural, historical, and artistic lenses. More than mere curiosities, the images on film are important records of the cultural forces and technical methods that brought about their production. They document in unexpected ways a period when developing photographic technology merged with a popular obsession with the occult to create a new genre of haunting experimental photographs.
